There aren’t too many things I miss about grade school. I do miss Friday night football games, I miss sneaking off campus for lunch at Burrito Kitchen and I miss snow days. Snow Days happened every once in a while, especially in Texas, but they were amazing when they came around. I remember one year walking to Kidwell elementary and sliding down the burns in cardboard boxes. I went with Heather, my next door neighbor, and her friend Candace. Later, Candace’s brother and his friends met us. I remember being over whelmed with the fact that high school boys were going to be hanging out. At the point in time I was in Jr High and smack dab in the middle of my awkward stage.
Snow Days are great because almost anything can happen during the 5-6 hours that you should be in school. They are different than summer and they are different from weekends. They are cold and wet and most of the time you are left with snow-filled shoes and soaking jeans, but it’s the only time in the world that you don’t care about all of those things!
In Oklahoma, we have snow days more often than in Texas. Oklahoma snow days are scary, and windy, and when you live by yourself they really aren’t that fun. The only thing worse than Oklahoma Snow Days are Grown Up Snow Days. These are the worst because these are simply pointless. You still have to wake up, you still have to drive to work, you still have the snow in your shoes and you still get the bottom of your jeans wet.
Makes me miss grade school, makes me miss Texas.
