Wasting Time (Mest)

You know that song that you can’t help but smile when you hear it? You have the full album, the single, and the live version on CD. It holds a place in every playlist or mix that you have ever made. And even though you have listened to the song thousands of times, you turn the radio up as loud as it will go whenever it comes on the radio. That song is “Dreams” by the Cranberries for me. People say that the sense of smell is what most commonly triggers a memory. I disagree, as usual. For me it’s music. I can hear an album and 9 times out of 10 I can tell you where I was whenever I first heard it. I can tell what I was doing, where I was and who I was with.

My favorite thing to do is listen to my iPod on shuffle while driving to Dallas. I think about the radio show that Tamara and I had in college, I think about the rock band that Brenna, Megan and I were in during high school, I think about the boys that came through my life who would eventually become the reason I love John so much. I think about the first and last summers of high school, and every memory in between.

I have “Memory Mix” of 50 songs that specifically take me back to some of my favorite memories. Songs like “Best of Me” “Broken Promise Ring” “Jack and Diane” “Hear You Me” and “Never Forever” never fail to make me smile, and take me far away from the things that are worrying me. Artists ranging in music style from Incubus to Pedro the Lion always know just the words to say to help me view the world in a better light. I heard in a movie once that all the greater questions of life can be answered in a Godfather movie. I feel the same away about my “Memory Mix.”

I’ll consider publishing it or something, you can place your orders here if you’d like.
